INDEPENDENT GOVERNMENT TO BE FORMED ON AUGUST 30
[From Our Own Correspondent],
Canton, To-day.
Every effort is being made by the Kwangsi military authori- ties to prevent further desertion of their training or fighting planes, without which they will be unable to defy General Chiang Kai-shek, President of the Executive Yuan and chairman of the Military Affairs Commission.
One hundred and fifty workmen were buried in the debris when these three matsheds collapsed at Stanley yesterday, when the gale was at its height. The good work of the Police and the Fire Brigade, however, resulted in 147 of the men being taken out alive,- (King's Studio).
The defection of three training planes to Canton over the week-end does not affect the Kwangsi Air Force, which still has some 50 fighters and several bombers. A Cantonese. Brig--TYPHOON DAMAGE IN MANILA General Lam Wai-shing, is still in command of the Kwangsi Air Force in Liuchow.
Reconnaissance planes are daily flying over the borders to observe the movements of the Nanking troops in Kwangtung, Human and Kweichow. Only loyal aviators are permitted to take off.
Many political agents claiming to represent northern mili- tary leaders have arrived in Kwangsi, to support its cause. Circular telegrams have been issued in Nanning by these repre- sentatives in the names of the northern leaders in support of| the Kwangsi secessionist movement.
