A new Olympic record of 2 mins. 12.5-10 secs. was set up by the Japanese swimmer Hamuro in the first preliminary heat of the Men's 200 Metres breast-stroke, event yesterday afternoon. Hamuro easily defeated Sietas (Germany) and Kaye (U.S.). who were clocked at 2 mins. 44.6-10 secs. and 2 mins. 48.5-10. secs. respectively.

The former Olympic record of 2 mins, 14.9-10 secs. was es- tablished at the Los Angeles Games in 1932 by Reizo Koike (Japan).

The second preliminary heat was likewise won by a Japanese, Ito, who finished in 2 mins. 45.8-10 sees. followed by Balke, (Germany) in 2 mins. 46.4-10 secs. and Jack Kasley (U.S.) in 2 mins. 54.4-10 secs.
