Y.M.C.A'S AMBITIOUS
PROGRAMME
V.R.C.'S SECOND EVENING FETE
(By
"Crawl")
AFTER a week's lull in the local swimming
world. next week's activities at the European Y.M.C.A., on Wednesday, and at the Victoria Re- creation Club, on Thursday, should produce some interesting sport, while the Royal Engineers are holding their annual sports next Monday at the V.R.C.
It has been the custom in the past for the "Y" galas to be featured by short races for men, but these are to be gradually done away with, and next Wednesday's programme will probably 100 see only one or two races of 50 Yards free-style. a Yards races being included. These will of course, be handicap
events.
The ladies are again well represented and no less than 13
entries have been received to date for their three events. I
must be mentioned that the Ladies' Swimming Section has
nothing to do with the Men's, as they arrange their own events
but leave the handicapping to the men.

London, August 1. THE Sub-Committee appointed by the Hong Kong Lawn Bowls Association to select the Interport team for the forthcoming series of matches against Shanghai met in the Board Room of the "South China Morning Post" last evening when they made the following selections: A. Hyde Lay (K.C.C.) (Captain), H. A. Alves, (Re- creio), A. E. Coates, (C.C.C.). H. H. Rose | (K.B.G.C.), J. F. MacGown (C.S.C.C.), and P, E. Knight (C.S.C.C.). Those present at the meeting were Messrs. C. J. Tacchi (chairman), J. V. Ram- say, E. el Arculli, G. H. Sherriff, W. Russell, S. Deacon and C. B. Hosking, Hon. Secretary.
In my article on the Interport prospects in last Tuesday's issue, I gave my opinion of the various players whose names had been submitted up to the date fixed by the Association, namely July 25. To find in the above list names which appear for the first time is rather disconcerting.
The names of Alves and Coates were not submitted before the last meeting, or else, presumably, they would have been announced with the others. The Association fixed a definite date before which names had to be sent in, they subsequently held a meeting at which they announced these to the public, and then (By "INFIELD")
