EXPEDITION TO SET OUT FROM COLONY
SCIENTIFIC TOUR OF
TROPICAL SEAS
ARRIVING in Hong Kong to finish the con-
struction of an American designed schooner which will take a party of 10 on a year's scientific tour of tropical seas, Mr. T. J. Kilkenny, yachts- man and fisherman, is now staying at the Glou-| cester Hotel. Two years ago Mr. Kilkenny and a few friends went on a treasure hunt in the Carribbean Sea, ran into a hurricane, and for 15 days, drifted helplessly until their steering gear could be fixed and they hobbled into St. Thomas, there to be picked up eventually by a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter.
Among the 10 who will go on the projected expedition are some who were with him two years ago on the ill-fated treasure hunt. Among them are Baron Frederick von Furstenburg and Ilia Tolstoy. grandson of the late Russian author. Others who will go on the present trip are Mr. Thornton Baker. New York oil man, and his two sons, and Mr. Ben Ames, a United Press correspondent who has just completed nine months in Abyssinia covering the war.
The craft in which the party will sail is a 75 foot schooner with a 100 horse power Diesel engine. Mr. Kilkenny designates himself as the skipper as he wants to keep his amateur standing as a yachtsman, so although he will direct the sailing of the vessel. he will be a member of the party and not of the crew. -

ATTRACTIVE NEW RATES
The Imperial Airways (Far East) Limited announce that as and fram August 1, 1936, the fares between certain of their stationa in Malaya, Siam, Burma, and India will be considerably reduced, re- sulting in corresponding reduc tions in the fares from Hong Kong.
A short while ago the fares over certain stages of the Singa- also pore Brisbane sector were reduced and a table, giving the fares from Hong Kong to the main ports on the England-Australia route as from August 1, 1936, compared with the fares previous- ly effective, will be found below.
These reductions should be particularly attractive to passeng- ers from Hong Kong and the Far East generally, in view of the very appreciable time-saving pos- sible by using the services to Aus- Siam, Burma, India, and tralia, instead of the conventional surface methods of travel.
Inter-Change Arrangements Inter-change arrangements are in operation between Imperial Airways, its associated and sub- sidiary companies, and many of the larger shipping lines, whereby combined air and ses travel is possible under several diferent combinations, the more important; of which are:
Combined through bookings—: part way by air and part way by sest
Return tickets-by air in one direction and by sea in the other;
Rebooking abatements; Round the World Tours; and Unaccompanied baggage bri sea at consession rates for In-! terchange passengers.
