RECREIO THROW AWAY FINE OPPORTUNITY
NEEDLE MATCH IN “B” DIVISION OF TENNIS LEAGUE
LE
(By Base-Line)
ED 2-1 at the end of the first round and level at 3-all at the end of the second round, the Chinese Recreation Club “A” beat Club de Recreio by 6 sets to 3 at Causeway Bay yesterday in a match that has virtually decided the Lawn Tennis League's "B" Division. Championship.
Unbeaten previous to yesterday, Recreio literally threw away their chance of winning the title for the first time in the history of the League," excessive lobbing and lack of aggression allowing their Chinese rivals to make a spirited recovery at the crucial stage of the match.
The Causeway Bay club's remaining fixtures are against the Civil Service, their. "Over 40" team and the University, and by no stretch, of imagination can I see then dropping even one; point in the course of these three matches.

BRITISH CHANCES ARE BRIGHT
(By "Referee")
HE brilliant success of Australia over the United States in the Final Round of the American Zone of the Davis Cup competition gives one the comforting feeling that, if Great Britain loses the Cup this year, the nation most likely to take it from her will be another mem- ber of the British Commonwealth of Nations- Australia meets Germany to-day in the Inter- Zone Final at Wimbledon.
The prospects for the retention of the Cup by. Great Britain are very bright. There is plenty of time for H. W. Austin to recover his best form. His recent injury while playing in the French championships was said to be of a more serious nature thar was commonly supposed. A torn muscle is a most unfortunate sccident where athletic prowess is concerned, and a ruptured ligament in the groin has graver consequences than a similar rupture in any other part of the limbs. However, Austin took part in the Anglo-American tournament at East- bourne last Thursday, when he was beaten by Donald Budge, and, so must have completely recovered from his accident
By entering for the Cup in the North American section," instead of in the European group as they have done since 1932, the L.T.A. of Australia made a most astute move; and the sequel has proved the wisdom of this tactical change. Opinion in lawn tennis circles in England and in Europe generally did not rate at all highly the chances of Australia against America, éspecially as the latter had the great advantage of playing at home.
