KIMPTON'S FINE BATTING

AMARNATH EQUALS RECORD Ceylon, May 30.

THE month of May is nearing its end and as far

as I can make it out there have been 66 cen- turies obtained in this time, five by the Indian team. Amarnath has had the honour of notch- ing three of these centuries, while Baqa Jilani, and Merchant have scored one each, writes

in the

Observer." "Ceylon Onlooker" Amarnath has equalled a record for an Indian cricketer in England by scoring two centuries în one match.

Only five centuries have been recorded against the Indians by J. H. Human, A. H. Bakewell, Cutmore, Smith and Gimblett. The last named Somerset player was the first to score a century against the Indians.. He has obtained three centuries so far like! R. C. M. Kimpton, the young Australian at Oxford, who notch- ed two centuries in one match against Gloucestershire.

Leyland holds the record for the highest score of the month | with 263. 'Patsy Hendren and A. B. Sellers are the only two! other batsmen who have passed the 200 mark.

Without Pacific Coast competition this year in the Intercollegiate AAAA at Philadelphia, an eastern college is expected to be crowned champion for the first time since 1924, when Yale crash- ed through. Several Olympic prospects will be seen in action. Gene Venzke, (left), star Pennsyl- champion over Eddie O'Brien, of Syracuse, national vania miler, is outstanding in his event.

400 Metres, faces stiff competition, while Gene Taano, of Pittsburgh, is counted on for points in the Javelin Throw.

their 1936 swimming season with a mixed gala on Wednesday, July 8, at 9 p.m. sharp, when a programme of eight events will be held, the outstanding feature of which will be the novices events in both the Ladies' and Men's sections.

At a meeting held yesterday evening it was decided that the Ladies' Swimming Committee arrange their own programme comprising four events, one of which was to be a Mixed Novelty race. with the Men's Section.

It was also suggested that, in view of the fact that there were several advanced swimmers among the ladies, their pro- gramme be divided into “A," "B" and "C" classes, the latter two being confined to novices and first year swimmers respectively.

The Ladies' 50 Yards Aggre-

gate Handicap will be continued

as in former years and this INTERPORT

will be the one event in the] Ladies section which will be open to all three classes of swimmers. It was felt that as a result of handicapping, all swimmers had a fair chance no matter how good or bad they

are.
