"GLOOMY SUNDAY" AIR IN PARIS
FURTHER CONFERENCES HELD
Paris, To-day.
The capital still wears an English Sunday appearance in certain quarters, where the big department stores are still occupied by strikers, but after a meeting yesterday afternoon between representatives of employers and workers, pre- sided over by the Minister of Interior, it is hoped that agreement will be reached and work resum- ed-to-day.
The end of the strike of petrol suppliers yesterday resulted in increased street traffic, but the taxi-drivers may strike to-day. It appears that taxi-drivers, shopwalkers and such like persons are not included in the newly signed labour charter, which only covers the industries, and therefore it is possible that such trades! may strike in order to secure their inclusion.
Owing to the absence of newspapers in the provinces the news of the strike settlement travelled slowly, and it is impos- sible yet to state how many have returned, but generally the situation is unaltered.
