RECREIO'S CHALLENGE TO C.R.C.

OLYMPIC SWIMMERS' TIMES COMPARED FILIPINOS TOO WEAK FOR BERLIN GAMES INTERESTING COLONY RECORDS (By "Crawl"} THE performances of the Philippine World

Olympic swimmers in the Victoria Recrea- tion Club pool last Monday evening are very in- teresting in view of the performances of other notables in the aquatic world who have swum in the Colony, and when one seriously takes into consideration their style, times and the fact that the team are in the pink of condition, their feats would merely be regarded as very ordinary in Europe.

The best time for the 100 Yards Free style ever recorded i in the Colony was by M. Yusa (Japan), who was unplaced at the Los Angeles World Olympic Games, but who subsequently broke the world's record for the 100 metres, only for this mark to be eclipsed by the performance of Peter Fick, of the New York Athletic Club.

Adjaluddin's performance was the best seen at the V.R.C. so far as time was concerned, but Sakagami, of the Japanese 1934 Far Eastern Olympic team, was clocked at 56 3-5 when swimming without opposition! Judging from what I saw of Adjaluddin, he could clip no more than a few fractions off last Monday's mark, and I shall be very much surprised if he secures a place in the second elimination trials at Berlin.
