ANOTHER TELEGRAM TO NANKING

SOUTH-WEST MEANS BUSINESS

(From Our Own Correspondent)

Canton, To-day.

'As a prelude to a new political development, the South-west Political Council and Kuomin- tang South-west Executive Committee dispatch- ed yesterday afternoon another telegram to Nan- king urging the Central authorities to resist Japan. A similar telegram was addressed to the nation at large.

The South-west officials are most anxious that General Chiang Kai-shek. President of the Executive Yuan, should fight the Jap- anese in view of the increase of the Japanese garrison in North China and the bombing of the Peiping-Liaoning Railway.

The well-informed correspondent of the Canton Daily Sun disclosed this morning that the English version of the two tele- grams was circulated to the Consulates in Shameen and all for-1 eign public bodies. He added that the South-west means bugi- ness if this telegram is ignored by Nanking.

Many alarming rumours have! during the past; been afloat ¡several days. There are per- sistent rumours that Nanking troops in Kiangsi, Hunan and Kweichow are mobilising to at- tack Kwangsi. General Chiang Kai-shek is already greatly em- barrassed by the Japanese menace in North China and by the Communist successes in circum- Sikiang, and in such istances he hardly has time to Mr. Lo Wen-kan, former Min-"pacify" Kwangsi.

CHIEF FACTOR IN PRESENT CRISIS REVISION IMPERATIVE

IN CAUSE OF PEACE ACTIVITIES OF LEAGUE SHOULD BE LIMITED TO CONCILIATION

Cape Town, To-day.

An attack by the Premier, General Hertzog, on the "cursed Treaty of Versailles" was the fea- ture of the debate yesterday on the motion of Mr. Visser, Vice-President of the Senate, that the ac- tivities of the League should be limited to world peace.

General Hertzog said he was confident that the League would yet attain its high ideals; but urged the revision of the Treaty of Versailles. He said that if war came that treaty would be res- ponsible, and added that nobody could condemn Britain for not disarming because she was the one country that had done her best in that respect.
