And

Representatives of the Egyptian Government and the Ger- man Legation, as well as the local British air force commander and the members of the Royal Egyptian Automobile Club, met the rescued men at the airport and heartily congratulated them on their escape.

It was disclosed that Baron von Stohrer and his chauffeur had lost their way in a sandstorm which burst shortly after their departure on Saturday, when they were already nearing their destination, the Baharjia oasis. Almost blinded by the whirlwind of sand the two men found they were driving in a circle, and their desperate efforts to find their way were frustrated by exhaustion of their petrol supply.

They just contrived to move the car on to a rocky eminence, where they covered it with a white cloth, which circumstance enabled Flight-Officer Richardson of the Royal Air Force to sight the car from a distance of nearly 30 miles.

Baron von Stohrer declared that he and his companion had managed to preserve their lives
