The last meeting of the present} session of the English Association of Hong Kong, which was held] last night at the Helena, May In-| stitute, was presided over by Sir| Thomas Southorn.

A large gathering was present to hear Father Ryan, S. J. speak on "Gilbert of the Savoy," other wise Sir William Schwenk Gilbert, writer of the librettos of the well-f known Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas.

The speaker ably covered the life and achievements of the great librettist, interspersing MDS anecdotes, and quoting whimsicali-| ties from his work.
