KEEN RACING AT

MR. DEITZ WINSON FOUR OUTSIDERS
SEVENTEENTH OF SEPTEMBER AND STOPWATCH NEED WATCHING
(By "Rapier"}
THE Second Extra Race Meeting last Saturday was favoured by brilliant sunshine, which was a welcome change compared with previous meetings, and as a result it was featured by ex- ceptionally keen racing, the outstanding per- formance undoubtedly being that of Mr. Dynasty's King's Warden in the Mirs Bay Handi- cap. Carrying the maximum weight of 168 lbs., King's Warden broke the record for the one mile and 171 yards distance, thus reflecting great! credit on the rider, Mr. G. U. da Roza, for his masterly handling of the pony.
There were several opsets, to which Mr. Norman Deitz con- tributed in no small measure when it is realised that all his four wins were outsiders. Mr. Deitz revealed something of his old brilliance, and punters would be well advised to keep him foremost in their minds at future meetings
Mr. F. F. Li is to be congratulated on graduating from the Novice Class, and racing fans will watch his future, progress with no little interest.

DETERMINED DISPLAY IN QUARTER FINAL MATCH CARELESS KWOK BEATS CASUAL GOSANO
(By "Base-Line")
SUI YAN-PUI, the "find" of the year, had the misfortune to strike an off day for his quarter-final match again H. D. Rumjahn, who was in one of his steadiest moods, in the Colony Lawn Tennis Singles Championship at the HK.C.C. yesterday. As a result Tsui deserved- ly lost by 6-2, 6-2.
The C.R.C. player never settled down to his usual game and "H.D." saw to it that he did not rally in the second set as he did against In Tak-cheuk. Deep and powerful driving was the cause of Tsui's downfall-his returns from unaccustomed positions lacked both pace and accuracy, while he became wild in his shots) whenever "H.D." advanced to the net. Tsui brought off one or two good shots, but I could not help thinking he was desperately stale.
"H.D." on his form yesterday, is likely to beat either Teddy Fincher or Lai Kwong-tsun, one of whom he will meet for right of entry into the Final. His base-live game was perfect on both hands, while his volleys were crisp and well-placed.
In the other Open event, a very careless Tennie Kwok entered the last eight at the TO-DAY'S TENNIS expense of a very casual A. V. Gosano.. It was an uninspiring display and scores of 6-4. 7-5 summed up the respective strengths of the two players.
