AMERICA'S HUGE
AIR ARMADA
DRIVE TO INCREASE
PLANES TO 3,000
114 NEW NAVY BOMBERS ORDERED
Washington.
CONTRACTS just awarded for 900 army and
navy planes mark the speed with which the drive to increase "America's Air Armada” to 3,000 in 1936 has begun.
Already 103 giant army bombers ordered in December are nearing completion and 114 new navy bombers will soon be warm- ing up on the flight decks of aeroplane carriers.
Both Mr. George H. Dern, Secretary of War, and Mr. Claude | A. Swanson. Secretary of the Navy, in their annual reports to the President stressed the necessity for, increasing the military air power of the United States. The navy reported 1,068 planes fit for sea service with 400 new planes contracted for. The army, said Secretary Dern, has 1,196 planes with contracts for 500 more.

*AH WILDERNESS” —KING'S THEATRE
Outstanding in. Its dramatic in- tensity by virtue of its sheer simplicity, this great, hit of the New Fork Theatre Guild is brought to the screen by Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer with all its vital elements preserved and amplided by the wider scope of the screen, with its pleasant outdoor sequen- ces ilmed in the quaint town of Grafton.
The play is a triumph, for Wallace Beery, who enacts the lovable, ineffectual Uncle Sid usually a comedian, but in several places a-poinant figure Lionel in his futile, romance. Barrymore revels in the role of Nat Miller, played on the stage by George M. Cohan and the late Will Rogers. He brings to the screen a totally different characterisa- tion, as forcible as his famous role in "A Free Soul."
The youthful romance is char- mingly handled by Erie Linden,: who gives an amazingly true per formance as the high school lover, ber Cecilia Parker, with and youthful, fresh charm.
One of the dominant figures in the cast is Aline MacMahon, as
the pathetic Aunt Lily, with ter hopeless middle-age romance. Spring Byington is perfectly east the mother of the family. Mickey Rooney adds comedy “as the family's youngest, and Helen
