London, January 23. Since my recent reference to the return to form of that romantic figure of the golf links, Horton Smith, further success has come. this way.

.

In a month he has won three of the biggest tournaments of the American winter circuit, and his share of the spoils is $1,000.

Golfers are wondering whether Horton Smith is about to repeat that record-breaking campaign of seven years ago. when, in Ameri- can phraseology, he "burned up" leourse after course and pocketed) more than £5,000-not an insigni- ficant sum for a youth of 20.

Started As A Caddie Horton Smith started life as a farmer's boy at Joplin. Missouri.! and at 16 he was a caddie. When bedropped from the clouds on 3) lastonished world. Hagen immedi-! jately dubbed him the "Joplin

Ghost."

In a few years Horton Smith, ai shrewd usiness man. has earned)

a small fortune, and, unlike many)

fers, has saved most of it. -

LEE POON YEE ANNEXES CHAMPIONSHIP

LA SALLE RELAY TRIUMPH

DUE

UE to a heavy track at the South China Athletic Association's ground and the intense cold experienced yesterday, athletes from St. Paul's College only managed to break the Shot Putt record at their annual athletic meeting held at Caroline Hill.

In recording a distance of 30 feet 5 inches, Kan Man-chuen bettered last year's mark by Lau Ping-pui by 24 inches.

The most interesting event was the Invitation Relay, which was won by the representatives of La Salle College. St. Joseph's members took the lead from the start of the race with La Salle quite a distance behind. But just about 10 yards away from the tape. William Gottsche, La Salle's champion, forged ahead to win comfortably.
