OVERBURDENED
DAMPEST SQUIB BY U.S. GOLF ASSOC.
LAWSON LITTLE TO MARRY
(By "Leighton").
London, February 15. HAT will, Ithink, turn out to be the dampest of damp squibs has been thrown by the U.S. Golf Association into the camp of those golfers who compel their caddies to carry an excessive number of clubs.
Mr. John Jackson, president of the association, warns goffers that unless the overloading of caddies can be curbed by public opinion it may be necessary to restrict the number of clubs com- petitors may carry.
Everything but the kitchen stove, it is stated, is loaded on the back of the poor caddie. "A club for every contingency and damn the caddie" is the slogan of the multi-weapon golfer."

FIRST GLIMPSES OF BOAT RACE CREWS OXFORD'S OUTLOOK IS DISTINCTLY BRIGHT
CAMBRIDGE CREW "PROFICIENT IN TRICKS"
MUCH may happen between now and April 4, but it is always interesting to go up to Ox- ford and Cambridge to see the University eights when first they start Boat Race practice after Christmas.
The Presidents have now ten to twelve men from whom they must pick the final eight, which, though not necessarily the best eight oarsmen, should be the eight men who, each in his respec- tive position, will form the strongest combination.
The Oxford President, B. J. Sciortino, has a crew which should prove to be more plastic in the hands of the coaches than any Oxford crew for some little time. A plethora of Blues, which is often somewhat of a mixed blessing, they have not got, and it therefore leaves the only other Blue, R. Hope, at stroke: an excellent place in which to have both experience and talent.
When I saw the crew last Saturday Hope certainly seem-! ed to have a control over his men which few strokes have
