IN discussing the prospects of the subscription griffins, I shall confine myself only to those that, to judge from the form displayed in the morning gallops, promise to turn out winners.

The chief interest will, of course, be centred upon the Valley Stakes, and among the new bunch of subs. The Gorilla is nomin lated to be the most outstanding animal, and his chances of carry- ing off the honours in this race are exceedingly bright. It is in- teresting to note that The Gorilla fetched the highest bid at the Sports Club seiling lottery.

Gold Sovereign is looked upon as a strong challenger to The Gorilla, and has figured in some very good gallops, which include a 2.17 mile. He invariably finishes with a fast last quarter, and i I am of the opinion that he will give The Gorilla a very good rate in the Valleys, while he should also figure prominently in the other races.
