TO. M. Sopwith's New Challenger
TO BE LAST WORD IN ART AND SCIENCE
London, February 4. Good progress is being made! with the building of Mr. T. O. M. Sopwith's new "J" class racing yacht Endeavour, likely to be chal- lenger for the America's Cup in 1937. The 85-ton lead keel has been cast at Camper and Nichol-... sons, Gosport, and work on the yacht will progress unceasingly, with overtime, to try and have her ready for launching and commis- sinning on the provisional date in the middle of May.
This means the yacht will have to be built in record time. Preparations, however, for the immediate construction of the racht are now so well in hand that the builders hope to com- plete their task by the sche- duled date.
The yacht is being built in the new building shed at Gos-| port, which is equipped with all the latest overhead cranes and tackles to facilitate speedy con- struction.

MATCH AT MATAMATA DRAWN
Matamata, To-day.
The two-day cricket match be-- tween the MCC tourists and. Piako which started here on Tues- day ended yesterday in a draw, a feature of the game being the splendid recovery made by the MC.C. who, after losing & wie- kets for as many runs, were 100 for 4 when stumps were drawn.
When play was resumed (there was no play after lunch the first day on account of rain), Piako took their total of 106 for: 7 to 140, Síms taking ^4 wickets for 33 runs.--Eenter.

DIANA Bay is looking extremely fit, and her
morning gallops certainly reveal that she is still capable of winning a race or two if the dis- tance is not too long. Oak Bay, holder of the five furlongs record, is as fast as ever over this distance, and her forthcoming return contest against Soldier of Britain in the China Stakes will be keenly awaited Pontiac Bay and Mis- take Bay are also very fit
Trentbridge has been given slow work for a long time, and if one is to judge by appearance she is her old self again; it is, however, difficult to say whether she has recovered her old racing form, as she has not been seen doing any serious training. King's Fancy does not seem to be looking too well, but King's Warden is undoubtedly in the pink of condition.
Soldier of Britain has done a few fast gallops with Mr. D. S. Li up, and I can see her winning races up to a mile. Soldier of China, who has changed ownership, is looking fit, and will be taken care of by Mr. T. L. Wong. Cossack's Beauty has not been looking too well.
King's Justice and King's Jubilee have been showing signs of improvement, and it is confidently expected that they will repay the Harbrad stable in their investment,
