THE CHINA MAIEŠKOS
A sensational court battle is promised in New York as Mrs. Hans Stoere, left, foster-sister of the late Lean Schinasi, cigarette millions heir, charges that Mes. Raby Schinasi, right, his widow, exercised undue influence to have his will made in her favour. Mrs. Stoere is suing to recover one-half of a fortune estimat- ed at $7,000,000 which she says was promised her by her for ter-father, the late Solomon Schinagi.

FIXATION OF TARIFFS-
TFrom Our Own Correspondent]
Canton, To-day.
The National Government in Nanking appears to have taken (a stronger stand towards Japan, as Tokyo's demand to recognise Manchukuo was definitely re jected by Mr. Chang Chum, Minister of Foreign Affairs, after consulting Dr. C I Wang, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Central Political Council.
According to a Nanking dis- patch, the National Government has decided to fix its own tariff without consulting any foreign Power (meaning Japas, the tariff being solely domestic question. The Central Political Council is requested to approve this line of action, as formulat ed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It was learned that Nanking is able to take an unequivocal view on Sino-Japanese relations on account of the diplomatic iso- lation. of Japan and the world opinion against her aggression in-China. One indication of China's stand is the adoption of ja managed currency, although it is bitterly opposed by Japan 25 hurting her trade in this country.
