"RED-LETTER DAY" TO-DAY IN ANNALS OF HONG KONG RUGBY

GOVERNOR'S CUP FOR

FEDERATION?

MANY LOOPHOLES IN ASSOCIATION TEAM

CHINESE ONE GAME AHEAD LOSS WILL MEAN REPLAY:

(By "Rover")

BECAUSE the Chinese Federation have never won the trophy and because to-day's encoun- ter will probably decide whether they do or do not înscribe their name on it, their Governor's Cup Second Round encounter against the Hong Kong Football Association at Caroline Hill will prob- ably draw a tremendous gathering and inciden- tally provide some thrilling soccer.

Although the Association team is fairly strong, it could have| been improved by the inclusion of Rodger in goal, Pile at left- back, and Bliss in the pivotal position Bliss has not really been given an opportunity of displaying his talent in a representative game for quite a time and it is up to those responsible for select- ing-the best possible team to forget their own little lot" and really settle down to their task.`

The Chinese have made an excellent job of their selection,

Some of Europe's fairest fancy skaters secured an advantage over their American competitors by working out considerably ear- lier at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, for the coming Olympic tests there. Left to right are Sonja Henie of Norway, world cham- pion; Liselotte Landbeck of Austria and Maxie Herber of Germany.

and the mere fact that two Athletic players, Mak Shul-bon and TO-DAY'S TENNIS FINALS

Lai Kwok-chin, have been included in the side speaks volumes for their organisation and foresight.

INTERNATIONAL

ENGLAND, IRELAND AND SCOTLAND AND WALES

WELL-BALANCED TEAMS

TO-DAY

(By "Referee")

is a "Red-Letter' day in the annals of K Rugby in the Colony, as the first round of the first local International series to be held in Hong Kong, between England and Ireland, and Wales and Scotland and the Dominions, takes place on the Navy ground, Causeway Bay, com- mencing at 3 and 4.15 p.m., respectively.

The teams are fairly well matched, although the Scotland and the Dominions team have a fine threequarter line, backed up by a fine pair of halves in Hutchison and Bonnar, while England's back division is also likely to be very much in the limelight.

The curious part of the four teams is that the packs are very good, so much so, in fact, that each in turn could be taken for a representative Colony eight, England, however, have the best combination with Harrison, Chambers hooking and Mne. Light, as the front row, Paddicombe and Robinson in the second row, and L/Cpl Harrison, Winter and Peers in the back row:

Scotland and the Dominions] will probably find that their pack, although fairly good, will not be able to withstand the assault of the other combina- tions.

Ireland's Fast Backs

Ireland also have a Sne back division with Kirkwood, Gallagher, Fraser and Hyres, a

very fast quartette, while Archer and Knox

should combine well at the base of

the surum.
