KARLSRUHE ARRIVES

First German Visit Since 1914

EDUCATIONAL VOYAGE FOR 120 NAVAL CADETS

This morning at 10 o'clock there arrived in the harbour of Hong Kong the German cruiser Karlsruhe, paying the first visit to the Colony of any. German warship since 1914-22 years ayo.

Salutes Fired.*.

On her arrival in port the. Karlsruhe fired a salute of 21 guns, which was returned by the Gun Club HH battery. The visit- ing cruiser then fired a salute of 11 guns for the Commodore, this being returned by HMS. Tamar.

A salute of seven uns then fired by the Karlsruhe, for the German Consul here.

Shortly after her arrival. the German Consul. Herr H.-Gip- perich, accompanied by Mr. M. Hess, went on board the cruiser to pay his official call on the
