HOLDERS REACH SEMI- FINAL ROUND
GOOD LADIES MATCHES ANTICIPATED
THE United Services Recreation Club Men's and Ladies' Lawn Tennis Singles champion- ships have reached the semi-final round, although there are still one or two outstanding matches in each event, and in both cases the holders, L Goldman, and Mrs. J. F. F. Kayll, respectively, have yet to enter the final.
In the Men's event, Goldman received a bye into the Second Round, where he eliminated Wing Comdr. Bishop and entered the Semi-Final Round by beating Lt. Comdr. Stapleton. He will meet A L. Sullivan for right of entry into the Final.
These two players, former doubles partners, have often been in opposition to one another. Two years ago they clashed in the final of the HECC. Singles Championship when Goldman won in straight sets. They were also rivals for the Shanghai Cricket Club championship..

A great deal has been done to this connection in the course of the last few months. As early as the beginning of November the President of the International Olympic Committee, Count Baillet-Latour, arrived at Gar-

"Jack Peterson, above, of Wales,
PROBABLY the biggest boxing attraction ever to be staged in the British Isles will take place to-night at the Empire Pool, Wem- bley, when Jack Petersen defends his British holder of the British berry and Empire Heavyweight boxing titles against Len Harvey, whom he has met twice before, los- ing his title in December, 1933, only to regain it in June of the following year.
Len Harvey, by virtue of his recent form, is the Welsh- man's most formidable rival, excepting Walter Neusel, of Ger- many, who has twice defeated the British champion, wrecking the latter's hopes of a bid for the world's title.
Petersen has acted as a good champion in accepting this match with Harvey, as he might have been disposed to keep the latter waiting until next June by accepting the guarantee mîni- mum of £6,000 offered to defend his title at the White City, in the meantime picking up useful purses in minor bouts.
