In order to make it clear to part- į ner that you are taking him ont of his suit because you lack sup- port, certain definite "sign-off** inferences are available.

- A-sign-of may be made with a seven-card suit or with a six- card sait headed by about one- half honour-trick. Hands con- taining long suits of this na- ture, and lacking support for partner's suit, are the exception to the general rule that you should not respond to partner's opening bid with less than one (honour-trick.
