CONTROL BOARD FACED WITH PROBLEM

KID BERG'S CHALLENGERS

London, October 4. THE amazing victory of Harry Mizler, the former light-weight champion, over Gustav Humery, the French title-holder, whom he knock- ed out in the eighth round, at the Albert Hall on Wednesday night, has caused a situation in British boxing full of difficulties and possibilities.

It may be that one result will be a crisis in the affairs of the British Boxing Board of Control, which would be an event Briefly, the facts are these. A long deeply to be deplored. eliminating series of light-weight fights was organised by the Board with a view to finding a challenger to the champion, Kid Berg, who won the title from Mizler.

Mizler was unable to take part; owing to injured hands. Eventually, two boxers emerged for the final stage--Seaman The fight Watson, of Newcastle, and George Daly, of London. was "auctioned" by the Board, awarded to a Newcastle promoter, "and declined by both boxers because the purse was considered

CLUB "A" BEAT ARMY AT HAPPY VALLEY POWELL SCORES TWICE FOR CIVILIANS

SOLDIER FORWARDS FAIL

(ByReferee")

POOR handling by the Club centre-threequar-

ters and bad heeling in the loose scrums by the soldiers featured the friendly rugby match at the Valley yesterday, when the Club “A” fifteen beat the Army “A” by two-goals and two tries (16 points) to two goals (10 points).

The Club were fielding eight senior players, while the Army were playing nine, thus the game was very nearly a first-class match, but there was something lacking, particularly from the Army point of view.

They gave the impression of being a badly trained side, and there were several occasions in the second half when Powell and Meeke were allowed to break clean through their loose forwards without being tackled.

The Club backs were certain-
