VERY GOOD OPENING HALF

(By Rover")

N even and exciting first-half, with 3 goals in the last five minutes, and a dismal and life- less second period, were the features of yester- day's First Division soccer encounter between the Lyemun Gunners and the Police, at Sookun- poo, which the latter won by four clear goals.

Durham, the Artillery goalkeeper, covered himself with glory throughout the game, saving shots from all angles, and two point-blank drives from Stephens and Tommy Pile. It was entirely due to his great-hearted display, coupled with an ener- getic partnership between Clancy, and Harris, the Gunners rear- guard, that kept the Police score down to only one goal during the second half, when the soldiers were literally overwhelmed.”

Morton, usually such a bulwark in the Gunners? defence, was a passenger yesterday, receiving a leg injury, and Fisher also. received a nasty injury which kept him out of the second-half. With the exception of Knight, Edmunds and Reece, the remainder. proved more of a hindrance than a help, and the game becamè a. battle royal between these six players and the Police eleven.
