and Gur. Halliley contributed largely to- wards the success of the 24th Battery who car- ried off the Inter-Battery Challenge trophy at the Eighth Heavy Brigade's (Royal Artillery) annual swimming championships, which drew a tremendous gathering of spectators to the Euro- pean YM.C.A. swimming pool yesterday after-

The races were very closely contested and some good times were returned, the best of the day being Lt. Withers 11 45 seconds for the 25 yards dash. He also contributed largely towards the success of the 24th Battery in the Inter-Battery relay, his final spart giving them a much needed victory.

H.M.S-Capetown, of the China Station, provided one of the biggest surprises of the day when they carried off the 150 Yards Open Invitation Relay, beating the East Lancashire Re- giment and the Royal Engineers." The sailors produced one of the finest combinations of sprinters I have seen in the Colony

C. G. Silva, a favoured player for this year's bowls Singles Championship, and skip of one of the rinks in the Open Final, was sensationally beaten by B W. Bradbury by 21 shots to 9 at Taikoo yesterday in the Fourth Round of the Colony Lawn Bowls Singles Championship.

Mrs. Willa-Moody, above, who was beaten by both Mrs. Covell and Miss Kitty McKane in the 1934 Wightman Cup match-ber only defeats on record-is not playing in the present series. which opens at Forest Hills-to- day.
