Washington, To-day. An official source said that the Export and Import Bank would refuse a cotton credit to Italy. Cotton exporters are re- ported to have received a request for a year's credit, and referred the application to the Import and Export Bank.

Thereafter the credit period would be reduced to six months

but even so the bank is planning

to refuse.

Officials of the bank denied that

the possible use of the cotton as war material entered into their de cision to refuse the credit, explain- ling that the proposal was not acted upon favourably owing to the "in- settled conditions in Italy.”
