ONE of the most enjoyable swimming func-

tions this season was witnessed in the European YM.C.A. pool last night, when the "Y" entertained the Royal Artillery, the Lin- colnshire Regiment and the East Lancashire Regiment in a series of events run on quadran- gular lines, affording the military teams some valuable practice for the forthcoming Hong Kong Area championships.

Although the YMCA were successful in all but one event, the Open Diving, they had to rely to a great extent upon a handful of swimmers, who performed yeoman service and who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

H.G. Lange, the "Y" champion, is deserving of special mention for his splendid swimming throughout the programme. taking part in no less than four strenuous events. winding up with the water-polo game, while a great improvement was noted the performance of G. H. Fowler, who swam splendidly in the 31en's Aggregate and in the Relay.
