MR. W. C. STEPHENSON'S Velsheda won the

J. Class race here to-day under the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. Mr. C R Fairey's Shamrock V. was second and Yankee last, beaten by Velsheda by seven minutes, -

The weather was thundery with very light winds, general- south-westerly, but variable throughout the day. The sail- ing committee wisely decided that there was insufficient wind. for the yachts to sail the longcourse from Dover to Boulogne and back and to-day's match was sailed once round the tri- angular course from Dover, round the Varne buoy and South

Goodwin lightship.

TACHTSMEN WERE. INTERESTED TO SEE HOW⋅ YANKER WOULD PERFORM IN THE GENTLE BREEZE AND CHANNEL TIDE AGAINST THE BRITISH YACHTS. I THOUGHT SHE SEMEED VERY FAST IN THE LIGHT AIRS BUT SAILING AGAINST THE TIDAL STREAM APPEARED TO PUZZLE THE AMERICANS.,
