LAISSEZ-FAIRE CONSEQUENCES
- CHINA' MAIL" SPECIAL
Paris, To-day.
The growing tension between China and Japan is provoking considerable discussion in the French Press. Most of the journals reproach the League of Nations for laxity in handling the sit- uation at the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese con- flict, so that subsequently the situation became unmanageable.
Thus the Intransigeant writes: "Erents have taken their course. The Japanese pressure is expanding to the south. Where will it stop? The weakness of the Geneva organisation has open- "ed the floodgates, so that the Japanese wave-front is now breaking
over the whole of the Far East."
Le Temps records that great uneasiness prevails in the Unit- ed States and England, "since the victory of the Japanese military party is evident and their slogan Asia for the Asiatics' really amounts. to Asia for the Japanese. What will the Powers inter- ested in the maintenance of the integrity of North China and the policy of the Open Doar do?"-Trans-Ocean Service.
