After the capture of Kangting, capital of Si- kang province, the Reds commanded by Chu Teh proceeded northward and took Patan, which is close to the border of Szechnen. From Patang the Communists will re-enter Szechuen, with Mao- kung as their next objective.,

The incursion into Sikang is to facilitate their drive northward, as it is difficult for the Reds to go through northern Szechuen owing to the pre- sence of large number of provincial troops. kang is just next to Szechuen, so the Reds invaded Sikang and then went northward.

Si-

as previously reported, the Reds are attempting to reach

Maokung, where they will be reinforced by some 80,000 comrades under Forward Hsu. The latest reports indicate that the two anits are getting nearer to each other. The combined force is like- ly to launch another "big push" into Chengtn.
