THE 1935 racing season promises to be a red letter one in the annals of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, judging on the performances put up by both jockeys and ponies during the first half, which con- cluded last Saturday.

During the last four months of racing no fewer than twelve re- cords, ten of which are credited to the Australian class, were shat- tered; Mr. Leo Frost claimed 32 wins, eclipsing even his own Valley records; twelve three-figure dividends were returned; and five “daily doubles were worth over $100-one was unbacked..

The jockey who showed the most progress was undoubtedly Mr. Donald Black, who rode eight winners, excluding his “hat trick” on the Macao track. Striking his best form late in the season, Mr. Black fully justified the confidence placed in him by Dr. Reidy, most shrewd of all local trainers. Mr. Tang Man Wa. Mr. F. F. Li, and Mr. C. Taylor proved the most promising Novices, particularly the last named, who was given few good ponies to ride.

Dunbar's Liberty Bay, unbeaten China pony, and Mr. Fatshan's Able Amazon from the betting, and the subsequent defeat of Able Amazon at the hands of Mrs. E. H. M. Tinson's Bag Tor, Mr. Johnnie Heard's retirement after 25 years of riding in China; and Mr. L. P. Ralph's comeback at the last meeting after an absence of eight years he previously rode with marked success for Jar-Able Amazon diae stables and Messrs. Hall and Shenton.
