WORCESTER'S LOSS

LARWOOD AND VOCE AGARI ON VIEW

(By RONALD T. SYMOND)

London, April 20. Worcestershire. who on May 1 will enjoy the first game with the South Africans, made a profit of a thousand pounds in the correspond- ing match last year with the Aus- tralians As this did most to en- able them to make a profit on the season for the first time in thirty- five years, and to, încrease their membership by nearly 500, they are looking forward to another bumper match in May:

The team is of uneven strength. Although the batting starts. off with three such accomplished stal- warts as C. F. Walters, Gibbons, and the Nawab of Pataudi, the tail is a long one and the bowling is not stronx. Attack will be further! weakened this year by the loss of Brook, who has accepted an ap pointment as professional to the jKeighley club, in Yorkshire.

It is hoped that Pataudi will be able to play more frequently, and

a welcome newcomer is GE

BUNNY AUSTIN'S TW

CRUSHING WINS

LEE & MALFROY LOSE

AT MELBURY

MISS SCRIVEN BEATEN IN TWO SET

(By A. WALLIS MYERS)

London, April 20.

AFTER two days' exciting play at Melbury

some of it interrupted by rain-H. W. Austi and G. L. Rogers qualified for the final of the men's singles, while Miss Round will play Miss Stammers in the final of the companion event.

Holiday crowds had their thrills. They saw Austin defeat Lee and Malfroy in succession with the loss of only one game in each encounter, Miss Scriven, England's No. 2, conquered by Miss Stammers in two sets; Prenn outplayed by the Irish giant, Rogers and Miss Round, in a sparkl ing match, carried to the tenth game of the final set by Miss Yorke.

There were two intriguing women's singles on Thursday although neither provided a close match. Miss Round's control under pressure was always superior to that of Mrs. Whittingstall and Miss Scriven, save at the beginning of the second set, hit too many winners all round the court for Miss Hardwick.
