Being an amateur, he was not allowed to accept a fee for appearing in this picture, which was "shot" last summer, but the English Lawn Tennis Association gave permission for his work to be paid for by the donation of a sum of money to charity by the British Lion Film Corporation.

LAW & THE PLAYER WHO CAME BACK WHY THE GOAL SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED

THE EVERTON LEEDS INCIDENT

(By J. T. Howcroft)

THE incident that occurred in

the

Everton

Leeds United match, when one of the players

is alleged to have returned to the field without notifying the referee, has aroused considerable comment, and I have had many letters on the subject.

The leading question put to me is whether the referee was justified in allowing

the goal which was scored shortly after the player's re turn, and in which he actually took part.

Here is the case as I understand it. Cochrane, the Leeds United winger, left the field owing to injury. By resuming play, without first notifying the referee, he definitely broke the law. Another player scored from the pass given by Cochrane when he returned, and then the referee was informed by his linesman that Cochrane had returned without reporting.
