CANTON OFFICIALS IN HONG KONG

To Say Farewell To Sir William Peel

"INFLUENTIAL DEPUTATION

A party of Canton Government Officials arrived in the Colony yea terday to pay a farewell visit to His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Peel, K.CM.G, K.BE. who is leaving shortly on retire. ment.

The party included the Chair- man of the Kwangtung Provincial Government, Mr. Lin Yun-koy, Mr. Liu Chi-wen (the Mayor of Can ion), Mr. Li Lü-chao (member of the Provincial Council · and 'Man- ager of the Canton section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway), Co lonel C. W. Liang (Provincial Councillor) and Mr. Wu Pak-shing (Councillor of the Municipal Government).

At the Kowloon Staljon, the Canton leaders were met by the Hon. Mr. N. L. Smith, (Secretary for Chinese Affairs), Mr. H. Phil- lips (the British Consul-General of Canton), Captain R. F. Walter (His Excellency the Governor's A. D. C.), the Hon. Dr. R. H. Kote wall, the Hon. Dr. S. W. Tяo and the Hon. Mr. T. N. Chau.

Officidle Calls

Shortly after their arrival the, Canton officials called at Govern- ment House, A guard of honour 'consisting of 50 men and the band of the Royal Welch Fusiliers was. present.

In the afternoon His Excellency the Governor returned the call; visiting the Canton lenders at the Hong Kong Hotel.

The visitors were entertained at
