Labourite' vote of cen- sure was defeated in the Honse Votes by 374 to 68.

Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chan- cellor of the Exchequer, replying in the debate, declared that the Government's unemployment po- liey had been most successful, though they had rejected a large expenditure for public works.

He said that the most effec tive contribution the Govern- ment could make would be to en- courage ordinary trade. Mr. Chamberlain said that he ex- pected that the recent rise in un- employment would soon be ab- Morbed and said that it would mean that there would be 700,000 more employed than three years ago.
