MISS BLOOMFIELD ON TEAM

“ITE HAVE NOT PICKED THE BEST FROM SHANGHAI, FOR THE OBVIOUS REASON THAT THE MAJORITY OF OUR BEST PLAYERS WERE UNABLE TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY LEAVE. THIS WAS THE CASE OF MISS MARY SHERIDAN, WHO HAD TO WITHDRAW HER ACCEP- TANCE AT THE LAST MOMENT BECAUSE HER OFFICE WOULD NOT ALLOW HER TO MAKE THE TRIP." SAID MISS E. Asked where the strength of the team lay, Miss Bloomfield said the defence was very strong, while the intermediate line was not as powerful as they would have desired.

I can assure you that the prospect of an Interport with Hong Kong was enthusiastically re- ceived.

SECOND MATCH OF SERIES

TO-MORROW

(By

"Sticks")

THE second of a series of annual Interport hoc- key contests between Hong Kong and Macao takes place to-morrow afternoon at Macao, and a fast and thrilling encounter is anticipated between two of the finest teams in South China.

It will be recalled that Macao visited the Colony during the Chinese New Year holidays last year when a brilliant last-minute effort by L da Costa found the net for Macao and forced· Hong Kong to a draw of one goal each

On that same visit Macao met the United Services and were defeated by the odd goal in seven. Although the score indicates that the latter was a good game, It was by no means up to the standard of the Interport game.

This year Macao commenced of the Club are, both absentees, their season with a visit to Sin-their places being taken by Dulla gapore where they won one Singh, a brilliant and experienced game, and were beaten in three pivot, and Alaf Din, a young Sepoy others; one at Kuala Lumpur who has had a meterolc rise on the when they lost by three clear hockoy field.

Last Minutes Changes

A brilliant exhibition on the right-wing last Sunday saw a re- markable change made in the In- terport team, N.-A. E. Mackay, who was selected to fill the barth, being dropped in favour of G. ER. Divett, while Alat Din was brought into the team at left half instead of G. Sommer. who had previously been selected.

Fine Army Combine

Kartar Singh and Lal Singh, the brilliant Army left wing combine, are making their first appearance together for the Colony, and their speed, stickwork, and wonderful understanding will make them B formidable pair..

Gurbachan Singh's stickwork is excellent, and if he can keep his line together there is little chance. of, Macao registering a home win. Macao's main strength is in their wing forwards, F.- Nolasco and A. Angelo, both of whom are exceed- |ingly fast and accurate in their stickwork, ~'In W. A; Reed and Alaf Din, the Colony have two excellent “policemen," and it is on their dis- play that the honours depend.

Reed's Comeback

It will be recalled that when W;' A. Reed was brought into the Club side last

year on the retirement of Dand he was unable to stand the pace of a fast game, but since then his form has been amazing, and I very much doubt whether the Macao forwards will break through his wing, /

Angelo will be best remembered in the Colony for his dashing, runs, down the left wing and his nest- reverse-stick centres

Strangely enough there are two Rodrigues playing, but on opposite aldes--and both are full-backs!

The Macso, back” is very, test tax Pecover and has recently, prov480 himself one of the finest backs in the East.
