LONDON AND PARIS COMMENT

U.S. MARKET UNEASINESS IS EXPECTED NEXT MONTH,

London, To-day. Rumours are again perplexing the foreign exchange market, help- ing to accentuate firmness of the dollar in terms of iterling and francs at first.

According to gossip current in New York, an

international

monetary conference is likely to be held in the Autumn, covering war debts and the stabilisation of currencies, after the ment of the exchanges.

Lieut. John David Luce R.N. and Misa Mary Adelaide Norah Whit- their ham photographed after adjust-wedding, which was solemnised at St. John's Cathedral yesterday. Lieut. Luce was one of the four British hostages taken by pirates from the 8.5. Shuntien in June last year (King's Studio).

In Paris it is the belief that the' United States is anxious to resume discussions with London for the re- turn of gold, while M. Flandin, the French Premier, might consent to a downward adjustment of the franc in return for international currency stability and a settlement of war debts.

SPEECH

MASS GRAVE SUGGESTED FOR KNOX'S EMIGRANTS LYRICAL APPEAL FOR PEACE

Berlin, To-day.

A bitter attack on Mr. Geoffrey Knox and the Saar Governing Commission was made by Dr. Goebbels, Reich Minister of Propaganda, in a "Mafeking night" speech outside the Ministry of Propaganda yesterday.

He said that Mr. Knox's emigrants had made. him look so ridiculous that he had only one task left, if ridicule can kill, and that is to dig a mass grave for the emigrants.

Dr. Goebbels concluded with a lyrical appeal for peace.

A Paris message states that 'relief, at the result of the Saar! Plebiscite is qualified by the reflection that it will strengthen Reichsfuehrer Hitler's position at home and probably stimulate his dynamic energy in foreign affairs, which may lead to a Nazi fer- ment in Austria.
