Up to to-day the Kwangtung Pro vincial Bank has received. 27 ap-: plications from merchants for trade loans. A decision will be made on January 15.

Loans will be advanced on the securlly of the goods of the ap-. plicants, and the requirements, it is understood, are not so strict 8B those of ordinary banks, as the ob jeet is to grant every facility to bona fide merchants who need money to tide them over the finan- cial situation.

Those merchants who have no movable goods to pledge can mort- gage their real estate to the Kwangtung Bank, provided the land is registered with the Municipal Bureau of Lands. Even land on the outskirts of the city can be mortgaged, provided they are regis- tered.

These loans will bear interest of not more than 12 per cent. Before the loans are granted, there will be an assessment of the value of the property. However, the Provincial Bank promises to use all speed in this investigation.
