CHINA EXPECTED TO MEET PORTUGAL IN "SUNDAY HERALD" CUP
CHINA SHOULD

MYSTERY TEAM
ALL CLUB PLAYERS PASSED OVER
SELECTION COMMITTEE CAUSE SENSATION
(By "ROVER")
Winners of the "Sunday Herald" International Charity Cup Competi] tion in 1930 and 1933, China have
an
excellent chance of entering their third final this afternoon when
they meet England in the Semi- Final Round on the Club ground, at 3:30 p.m.
Represented by almost the South match-winning entire China "A" team, the Chinese present a formidable front, while their defence is almost impregn- able, with those two stalwarts Lee Tin-sang and Lau Mau at full-back.
The England team selection has caused a sensation by the omission of all Club players...even from
the ranks of reserves-the Ser- vices' being fully represented by three sailors and seven soldiers, while the rest of the team and re-
serves are made up from the Police
and Kowloon.
The selectors, evidently with the encounter between Lai Wah Cup
the Army and the Chinese still fresh in their minds, have thought fit to include Services instead of civilians, taking, of course, form into consideration.
Howe Dropped!
Howe, the Club's centre-forward team-if not good enough for the ecrtainly merited inclusion in the contre-forward position then most emphatically as a reserve!
Fowler's
emission from
the
right-wing is another instance where reputation has been placed before form, for any one player deserved recognition it was Fowler.
He has performed consistently well throughout the season, and besides being a deadly shot and
one of the greatest opportunists, is
a most unselfish player.
I am not running down Kiley, but the fact remales that the latter is practically unknown' and has not done anything outstandingly good to merit inclusion.

OLD-STYLE TACTICS AND MODERN SCIENCE
DEFECT OF THIRD-BACK IDEA
(By HARRY BURGESS, Sheffield Wednesday's International Inside-Left)
Tactics must be arranged in accordance with the kind of op- position you are likely to meet. Naturally, you will not know every. thing about an opposing team before you line up to meet them. But probably you have played against them previously, Certainly you will have heard something about them
about their methods, achievements, and current form.
Thus you can always prepare for your opponents in advance, although your preparations can never be complete. As the game proceeds, you can soon discover whether the ideas you had form- ed were well-founded or otherwise.
A clever team show their brilliance in shaping their tactics, and varying their normal methods, to meet any kind of opposi- tion. This applies particularly to the forward line, who are mainly responsible for accomplishing the aggressive work, which brings victory.
