Judgment And Costs

For Defendant

NO INJURY. TO PLAINTIFF'S REPUTATION OR CREDIT

After a lengthy hearing, the Cheung Chau slander action in which a village elder, Kwan Yip. was sued by a young Chinese girl for alleged "slanderous" words, came to a conclusion this! morning, when Mr. Justice P. Jacks awarded judgment to the defendant, with costs.

Mr. M. A. da Silva appeared for the plaintiff, while the defen- dant was represented by Mr.j M. K. Lo.

The plaintiff, Liu Kwan, an 18- year-old Chinese girl, claimed $1.000 damages for injury to her credit and reputation.

Evidence Not Satisfactory in giving judgment, His Honour the Pulsne Judge said:

To sum up the whole matter, the the evidence given on behalf of plaintiff has not satisfied me that the statement made by the defen- dant at the meeting of the elders on March 30 was slanderous.
