It has completely busted the jig saw skirt, composed of panels ani patches of material' cut on the eross, which can be a beautiful and graceful thing if handled with re- jstraint, but is apt to look like # 5 design for a mosaic pavement if
over-exuberantly treated.
Most of these new skirta, cut on: the straight, are pillar-like in their straighness, but one designer has introduced shaped panels which give a soft girlish softness of a Dec. 7 straight gather kirt without the thickness at the waist. To make this akir more billowy she has put ja pleated frill at the foot, a plisse bit on the bodice and a sash of ribbon at the waist.

THE RIVALRY FOR BLACK
Diagonal Weavings
The perennial popularity of black

But it is probable that although
for town wear in the winter has the woman who dresses successfully much more rivalry to contend with will take advantage of one or other this season than usual. This is due of the lovely deep greens, prunes, probably to the excitement over fur blues, or reds, for one or two ensem- trimmings dyed in deep blues and bles, she will come back to black, greens to match the material of the black and white, or black with a coat. There is also the constant touch of clean colour for some of Improvement in every kind of dye- her most effective and satisfying Ing, which provides us with the clothes.
NEW COLOURS IN FURS
