ROYAL WELCH FUSILIERS REPORTED EASY FOR WYCHWOOD ABBOT

FUSILIERS MAKE

POOR DEBUT IN

LOCAL FOOTBALL

CONCEDE 8 GOALS TO BORDERERS

FULL-BACKS WEAK

(By "ROVER") . The Royal Welch Fusiliers, who will take over the local soccer lea- gue fixtures of the South Wales Borderer, played their first match against the Borderers yesterday at Happy Valley, but were routed by 8 goals to nil, four of which were scored in the first half.

The newcomers were obviously not at home to the strange sur- roundings, but on occasion showed good combination at forward. The two full-backs, however, were out- classed by a fast-moving Borderer forward line.

The goal scorers were Mathias (3), Fortey (2), Mullane, Duncan, and Jones.

London, November 1. YOUNG man, Mr. O, V. Wat- ney, celebrated his recent engagement by winning the Cam- bridgeshire yesterday with Wych- wood Abbot.

The horse has been a popular fancy for the race for a very long time. He started second favourite. in one way and another fortunes have been won by his success, but Mr. Watney himself did not back his horse. He never bets.

This was a youthful triumph.
