WELCOME MORN THIRD IN SHANGHAI CHAMPIONS

Shanghai, November 8.

The climax of the autumn meet- ing was reached yesterday when Shanghai's best ponies cantered up the course in front of the Grand Stand to the start of the biggest race of the year-the Champions, writes the "North China Daily News".

The race itself was well and truly run. Opera Eve started a heavy favourite, with backers looking towards Rochester, Wel- come Morn and Boston Drill to come in in the event of an upset. A fine finish, however, sawi Castle-ribbon come up, with a well timed rush on the part of his jockey, to beat the famous Opern Eve by half a length.

Nine ponies went into the paddock at the ring of the saddling bell for the Cham- plons. Castle-ribban and Bos. ton Drill both looked a picture of fitness and Rochester's looks

also encouraged his supporters to put the extra $5 on.
