Due to Mr. Morgenthau's state- ment, observers are speculating on whether the United States has de- finitely switched its allver pur chasing to Mexico, abandoning the Orient and Europe."

They believe that buying from China may end due to the tax. They draw attention to the fact that the recent stability of Euro- pean exchanges indicates no buy ing of silver there.

Attention is also called to tho fact that last month the New York Federal Reserve Bank received: 3,700,000 ounces of silver from Vera Cruz and Tampico..
