TRENTBRIDGE SETS MAGNIFICENT
NEW MARK
DIANA BAY'S GOOD START NULLIFIED
JUNGLE JIM'S SURPRISE WIN SHOWING an amazing burst of speed in the home straight, Trentbridge (Mr. A. J. P. Heard) came home to a popular win in the Double Tenth Plate at the second day of the Eighth Extra Race Meeting at Happy Valley yesterday to beat Diana Bay (Mr. B. A. Proulx) 'comfortably in the record time of 1 min. 10 3.5 secs., a fifth of a ge- cond better than the previous best held by King's Bounty.
On his formi yesterday it now seems problematical if Liberty Bay, himself, could have held Trentbridge at such a cracking pace. Mr. Proulx forced Diana Bay into the loud at the start. but a stronger finish gave Trentbridge the advantage in the home straight to win by four lengths at the finish.
Jungle Jim (Mr. S. Y. Liang) surprised punters when he came through to win the Kiangsi Handicap and pay $31.10. tne highest dividend under the new $2 betting facilities.
Mr. N. Dietz, who proved to be the best jockey of the day, rode a masterly race in the final event when he brought Cavalcade kome after a thriling tassle with Classic Hall (Mr. Heard), who led throughout. The cash sweep in this race returned $1,523.20, the highest for the day.
