Latest War In The Air
Lessons From French Manoeuvres
NO POSSIBLE ATTACK
(By Arthur Davies)
The recont air-manoeuvres in France have once again emphas ised the fact that there is at present np possible defence against a determined air attack. A Blue Force composed of 100 machines, was to make an on- slaught on Le Bourget aero- drome, defended by a Red Force. The Reds had a considerable number of sound detectives and captive balloons in working order and a thorough system of wire less communication between all their units. The attack was to have started at 5 a.m.; but wea ther conditions delayed matters for an hour or two. The Red observers spotted 12 Blue ma chines at about 8 am, but is spite of the utmost vigilance these escaped from further sight until at 10 they suddenly appear- ed at Le Bourget and dropped their bomba (in this case of course harmless coloured lights) and got away unmolested. A few miliutes later. another group of... Blue bombers reached the same objective, and in spite of be ing harried by Red fighters were able to carry out their task of destruction with equal effec tiveness. Later two other fleets of Blue bombers arrived with very similar results,
