GILBERT HARRIMAN DOING WELL

GUIDE TO FORM

Now Able To Leave His Bed HANDICAPS

Every Day

Mr. Gilbert Harriman, well- known as one of the most experi- enved jockeys on the Hong Kong turf, who has been in hospital for some time following a sorious operation, is progressing favour- ably.

Although the date of his dis charge from the War Memorial Nursing Home is not yet definite, it is understood that he is now able to get up every day.

It is not, however, expected that "Gilbert" will be seen riding at the Valley for some time to come.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club have spared no pains to make the Sweep Jan unqualified success, and their efforts have been rewarded insofar as ticket sales have already reached over 77,000-this is well over the total sold on the Juling Stakes at the last meeting of the first half of the season, the total sales for which amounted to only 74,500.

HERE IS LITTLE DOUBT THAT THE BEST EVENT AT THE SEVENTH EXTRA RACE MEETING OF THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB, WHICH OPENS THE SECOND HALF OF THE 1934 RACING SEASON ON SATURDAY, WILL BE THE SECOND RACE, THE CORROBOREE HANDICAP, FOR “A” CLASS AUS- TRALIAN PONIES.

In view of the remarkable performance of the Australians last season, when records over every distance were smashed by the new batch of ponies, this event should be watched with much interest, to see how the ponies have weathered the summer, and whether they can once more lower the times over any of the dis-

lances.
