BETTING DUTY ON SLIDING SCALE.

An anticipated further heavy fall in the gross receipts from the sale of pari-mutuel tickets, possibly to a figure below $4,000,000 during The current year, has caused the Government to introduce a0 amendment to the Betting

Duty Ordinance, following a re- quest by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

The amendment repeals sub- section one of section six of the 1931 Ordinance and substitutes the following sub-ection;

(1) On every bet made on any totalisator or part-mutuel authorised by this Ordinance there shall be charged a duty On a scale to be determined from time to time by a resolu- tion of the Legislative Coun- cil.
