Refuse To Discuss Silver Question,

'PURCHASES STILL VEILED

Washington. To-day.

The report that the United States Government has decided to embark on a great silver-buying campaign involving the purchase of some 11,254,000,000 ounces during the next six months, bas aroused widespread interest, but Treasury officials refuse to dis- cuss the question of silver.

The Treasury, at present. is authorised to purchase silver ex- ceeding 1,000,000,000 ounces, butj it cannot, at present, be definite- ly determined whether it will do
