'VARSITY GRADUATES IN ENGLAND

Engineering Students` Praised.

"ENGLAND WANTS MORE.

Excellent reports regarding the engineering graduate appren- tices of the Hong Kong Univer sity already in England, have been received from British indus- trialists, according to, Sir William Hornell, C.I.E.,, in his annual re- port, who states, that requests have been made for more grad- uates than the University can supply.

The report states that they have not only worked well, but they have adjusted themselves easily and spontaneously to the conditions which obtain in Eng-1 lish factories and English indus- trial towns. They are happy and popular.

There was yet some hope in our architecture, he said, though our Young men were trying to run be fore they could walk.

He could find no saving clause- in the procédure of “modernismus” painters, sculptors, writers and musicians.

Sir Reginald found throughout the same anxiety to startle at all costs. He procceded:

"This might be comparatively harmless, but there is another phose of some modernist sculpture which is not.

"And that is the slant to the hideous and unclean, to matters) which by tacit consent of civilised people have hitherto been left in abeyance.

"The modernist sails as near the wind as the police will allow him.! and, as the police do not visit modern galleries, this gives him a fairly open field."
